O'Brien strikes gold for Gorey
DAVID O'BRIEN struck what could prove to be a vital goal at the end of the season on Sunday last to earn Gorey Celtic a victory over All Blacks in their Noel Kehoe Pitch Maintenance Division 1 clash.
The two met at Casey Park on Sunday, with relegation weighing heavily on both sides' minds.
A win for the home side would have seen them join Celtic on 11 points, but O'brien's lone strike has now pushed his team six points clear of the drop zone.
All Blacks will now have to set their sights on nearby Rosslare Rangers who currently sit four points above them. They were also in action last weekend, slumping to a 4-1 defeat against Park Hotspur.
Seán Pailing (two), Peter Marsden and Mark Flood were the league leaders' marksmen at Rosslare Harbour. The table-toppers can't afford to rest on their laurels though as there are plenty of clubs plotting their downfall. One of those sides is Bridge Rovers and they kept their potential title triumph on track with a facile 30 win over basement club Duncannon at the Bogside.
Curracloe United and Kilmore United went into the weekend level on points and vying for outright third spot but, with the two set to take each other on at the River Field, a power shift seemed almost inevitable.
And Curracloe took full advantage of playing on home territory as they emerged victorious on a 3-1 scoreline.
Liam Donnelly, Eoin Kinsella and Brian O'connor found the back of the net for the hosts to earn them the win.
New Ross Town were also hoping to fire themselves up the league table last weekend but they only yielded one point from their trip to Dunmaine, where efforts from Paul Byrne and Ricky Dwyer earned St. Leonards a point. And finally last weekend was the matter of Wexford Celtic's tie with Moyne Rangers at Sinnottstown Lane which didn't end well for the hosts who suffered a 2-0 defeat.
