Local sides record good wins against visiting Luton team
LAST WEEKEND saw St. Martin's Under-17 Schoolgirls' squad arrive in Wexford for the weekend to play two matches against local opposition.
Coming from a high standard league where they play clubs of the calibre of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Charlton, the girls from Luton were not taken lightly by the home teams.
Their first match was against Tramore FC in the fantastic Kingfisher Complex in Waterford, and both sides produced an excellent display of football on the all-weather surface.
Both sides went close in a scoreless first-half, with Beth Cummins saving well from the visitors on two occasions while Tramore saw a shot rebound off the crossbar.
The second-half started closely but Tramore drew first blood and scored when Rachel Hutchinson lobbed the 'keeper from 30 yards to find the net. St. Martin's pushed forward in search of an equaliser but further goals from Hannah Walsh and Vanessa Ogobonna wrapped up an impressive 3-0 victory for the Waterford side.
The league would like to thank Peter Jacob and Tramore for facilitating this match at short notice.
On Sunday the Luton girls visited Kilmore to take on the South East U18 squad and found themselves 2-0 down after just ten minutes thanks to goals from Leona Breen and Michelle Darcy.
They did show some spirit and pulled one back before half-time, but the South East squad were always in control and scored two more through Shauna Carley and Vicky McNeary.
St. Martin's did manage to find the net but were always chasing the game as the South East squad ran out 4-2 winners.
The league would like to thank Kilmore United for the use of their facilities which were in excellent condition, as well as Shane Murray and Tommy Breen who managed the South East squad on the day

All these will kick off in mid-September, but trials will take place on Saturday, August 14, and second trials on Saturday, August 28, so it is important that players register their interest now by texting name, date of birth and club to Peter Doyle on 0872697074.
These League Training Centres (LTC) will replace the Gaynor Cup trial system for Under-14, -16 and -18 so it's vital that players who wish to take part in the Gaynor Cup in July next year come forward for these trials.
