'Legends' team to be selected

Wednesday February 03 2010

THE WEXFORD Football League celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and a celebratory dinner will be held at Easter. As part of the celebrations, a Wexford ' legends' team will be announced on the night. This will comprise eleven players as selected by an expert panel from the list of players below.

The panel has shortlisted these 56 players from which the 'legends' team will be selected. At the start, we inadvertently omitted Wayne O'Leary from the list of midfielders. The full list is printed below.

The team will be selected in a 4-3-3 formation. The players selected represent every decade of Wexford football, and all spent the majority of their playing careers in the Wexford League.

The league is running a free competition open to anyone (outside the selection committee) to see whose selection will be closest to the one chosen by the panel. To enter, select your eleven from the list, and post to: PO Box 25, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.

The winning entry will be the one closest to the chosen team, and if there are ties, then lots will be drawn to determine the winner. Closing date for entries will be February 28.

The winning prize will be two premium tickets to the first-ever soccer international game in the magnificent new Aviva Stadium, Ireland v. Argentina, in August this year.
