FOLLOWING the success of the Ajax Coaching Clinic in December, The Football Coaching Association of Ireland has announced that it is coming back to Gorey Celtic Football Club and bringing The Kevin Sheedy Coaching Clinic on Wednesday, March 3, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., giving local coaches the chance to learn from the best.
Kevin Sheedy is a retired Irish international footballer who is best remembered for being the first choice winger in Everton's hugely successful 1980s side, making 369 appearances and scoring 97 goals. Kevin also made 46 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and scored nine goals, including a famous strike against England in the 1990 World Cup finals.
During Kevin's coaching career he has been a youth coach at Blackburn Rovers (1996-98), has been an assistant manager at Tranmere Rovers (1998-04), assistant manager at Hartlepool United (2004-05) and is now a senior academy coach at the renowned Everton Football Club Youth Academy. 'I am looking forward to visiting Wexford and I aim to help the local coaches by hosting an informative workshop for them,' said Kevin.
Tony Brown of Gorey Celtic said, 'We worked with the FCAI and hosted an Ajax coaching clinic in December 2009. We got a great turn out on the night from coaches of all levels and everyone enjoyed the evening. I look forward to welcoming Kevin to our club and I know many local coaches are excited already about this workshop.'
Starting at 6 p.m. at Umbro Park, the coaching clinic will involve a practical demonstration from Kevin, a coaching seminar and will finish with an open Q&A session. The clinic is aimed at improving coaching techniques, building coaching confidence, sharing information and inspiring our football coaches, from grassroots level to senior level.
Coaches wishing to attend can purchase their tickets online from ticketmaster.ie or directly from Gorey Celtic.
