Gleeson grabs another headline

Tuesday January 24 2012

LEIGHTON GLEESON loves a headline.

The Courtown Hibs star has been in scintillating form thus far this season in the Carlton Millrace Premier Division, and he didn't disappoint his fans on Sunday as he racked up a double that saw off New Ross Celtic.

Ounavarra Park was the scene of the crime as Gleeson landed both goals to secure a 2-1 win for his side, which sees them maintain the six-point gap between themselves and current league leaders North End United.

North End United were also in action last weekend. The Hollygrove outfit faced a trip to Tom O'neill Park to take on Campile United and the league leaders came away with a 3-1 success.

Paul Murphy struck two of the goals for the tabletoppers, with Alan Colgate also finding the back of the net.

North End United can't afford to rest on their laurels though because Shamrock Rovers are hot on their heels.

The Fr. Murphy Park men made it seven wins from ten outings on Sunday as they romped to a 4-0 success over Adamstown.

Chris Kenny, Emmet Quirke, Eamonn O'brien and Martin Mckeown all weighed in with singles for the home side on Sunday.

But Rovers weren't the only side recording a landslide 4-0 victory this week. Ferns United were playing host to second-from-bottom Gorey Rangers and they ran out 4-0 winners (see focus game).

In the final clash of the weekend, Adamstown and Wexford Bohs played out an entertaining 0-0 draw.
