Road races in Bridgetown on Sunday
THE COUNTY Wexford Masters and Novice road race championships take place this coming Sunday (March 14) in Bridgetown. This is the first time that a county championship race has been held in the village and it will be hosted by Kilmore A.C.
Please not that there has been a change of start time, with the action now under way at 12 noon. The ladies' Masters and Novice races over 3km will kick off proceedings, and this will involve one lap of a circuit around the Bridgetown area.
The men's Masters and Novice races will follow over 6km, which will see athletes complete two laps of the circuit.
Both Masters and Novices will run together in the one race.
Last year, Jackie Carty (Kilmore A.C.) and David Barron (Slaney Olympic) won the respective Masters titles in Enniscorthy and both are likely to be back to defend their titles, with Jackie having a major threat in Ann Sullivan (D.M.P.), and David likely to be severely tested by clubmates Kevin Murphy, Jim Stafford and Ted Flannelly plus S.B.R's Tommy McElwaine.
The Novice races are open to all athletes bar previous winners of this title or a higher grade. For any queries, contact John Moore on 086-6666141.
An Athletics Leinster meeting will be held in Newbridge A.C. clubhouse this Thursday, March 11, at 8 p.m. All counties are requested to send delegates.
