Ladies so close to glory
Wednesday February 17 2010
BOTH THE Wexford ladies' and gents' darts teams travelled to Castlebar last weekend to take part in the inter-county All-Ireland tournament where they met with mixed fortunes.
The men, despite losing their first game 8-4, went on to qualify for the quarter-finals where they came up against the eventual winners, Donegal, losing on a 7-1 scoreline.
The ladies, however, continued where they left off last year, winning their first game 4-2 against Laois. They next beat Waterford 6-0 and their third and final game in the group stages was against Donegal, drawing this one 3-3 to finish top of the table.
In the quarter-final they played Galway, coming out on top in this game on a 4-3 scoreline. They then played Mayo in the semi-final in possibly their best game of the weekend, beating them 4-0 to advance to the final where they were beaten by Cork 4-0. However, the score did not reflect the standard of darts played by the ladies.
On Sunday, March 14, the A.G.M. of the county darts takes place in the Danby Lodge at 5 p.m. sharp.
