MONAGEER-BOOLAVOGUE

As St. Patrick's Day quickly approaches, plans are now under way to organise our under-age teams to march in the Enniscorthy parade. This year's parade is part of the 1500 anniversary celebrations for Enniscorthy, and it is fitting that we take the oppurtunity to help mark the occasion.

More details regarding the time of assembly and collection point for children closer to the time. Please note all are welcome to participate and show your club in the best light. All parents are welcome to march and help to supervise.

In need of a little exercise and walking too boring? Why not contact Paul Fenlon or Graham Walsh and find out more about the quickly growing sport of racquetball now being played in the G.A.A. complex in Monageer.

At present let's say all mature players are being invited to participate and can do so by either contacting Paul or Graham or just simply turn up on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings for a game. A league is proposed to be run before the summer, so come on, join in.

The Juveniles and Minors have resumed training and a session is planned for this evening (Wednesday) and Saturday, with the time to be advised for the Saturday session. Rackard League training will resume shortly for all concerned, most likely on Sunday morning.

CASTLETOWN-L MELLOWS

The Under-12 hurling tournament kicked off on Friday night last in the new Chris Murray Arena. Four teams took part, with a further four starting their campaign on Friday next. The teams were Liam Mellows, St. Pat's of Camolin, Ballygarrett and Carnew.

The first match was between the home team, Liam Mellows, and St. Pat's of Camolin. It resulted in a home win, with Eoin Cullen scoring a hat-trick. There were impressive performances from our goalie, Liam Coleman, and our back line consisting of Frank Roche, Ross Cody and Rory Heffernan.

Our forwards proved very elusive also, with Shane Halpin, the Brookes brothers (Robbie and Dara), Fionn O'Loughlin, Niall Keyes and Seán Harte all getting on the scoresheet. Midfield proved tough for our opponents, with Cillian Kavanagh, Cameron Reynolds and Seán Dunne at the helm.

Liam Mellows went on to win all three of their games to top the group, and St. Pat's of Camolin finished second on the leaderboard. The standard of the hurling was very good considering it is so early on in the season.

All players appeared to enjoy the experience in our new state of the art complex, and we look forward to welcoming four new teams this Friday for the second round of the tournament.

Club registration will take place on Sunday, March 14, from 12-3.30 p.m. in the Chris Murray Areana. Subscriptions are now due and the club are introducing a new family membership which incorporates a ticket for the Model County Draw. The committee will be in touch with members regarding details.

The Chris Murray Arena will be officially opened by Christy Cooney on Sunday, March 14.

HWH-BUNCLODY

Half Way House-Bunclody G.A.A. club's Minor footballers had a 2-10 to 2-6 win over St. Martin's in the Martin Cullen Cup final in Ballymurn on Sunday last. HWH-Bunclody gave a great team effort and played brilliant football, particularly in the first-half.

Movement of the ball and score-taking by the team was a joy to watch, and all players played their part in the well-deserved win. Team captain Paul Atkinson led by example and was named man of the match.

Team: John Carton; Jamie Rory Murphy, Podge Murphy, James Taylor; James Ellard, Paul Atkinson (capt.), Páraic Sinnott; Stephen Finn, Seán Kenny (0-1); Adrian Hendrick (1-3), James Doyle (0-1), Jonathan Thorpe (0-1); Podge Kehoe (0-2), Aidan Nolan (1-1), John O'Connor (0-1). Subs. - Seán Taylor for Thorpe, Liam Finn for O'Connor, Seán Cummins, Eoghan Murphy and Ronan Roberts. The team mentors and selectors were Niall Guinan, Jimmy Kehoe, Tom O'Connor and Michael Kehoe.

Training for Juveniles takes place on Thursdays at 7 p.m. under the team of John Murphy, Ciarán Kelly and Aidan Kenny.

Vodafone are currently running a promotion where you can donate 5% of your bill to your local G.A.A. club at no cost to yourself. HWH-Bunclody are currently seeking Vodafone customers to sign up to this offer and would like if you could text your name and phone number to 087-7704045.

Plans are under way to make a book of the history of the G.A.A. in the parish, and we are requesting people who have photographs and newspaper cuttings to forward them to Liam Kelly Junior. E-mail him on liamkelly23@gmail.com or contact him on 087-7704045 and he will collect them from you.

The HWH-Bunclody club dinner dance is being held in the Millrace Hotel, Bunclody, on February 26. Being honoured are the Senior football champions of 1985 on the 25th anniversary of their success.

The Bunclody camogie Junior county champions, the Intermediate football league champions and the Junior 'B' hurling league champions are also being presented with their medals.

RAPPAREES-STARLIGHTS

Despite the fact that there is nothing happening with games yet at Bellefield, it was still a hive of activity last week, with adult training in full swing, the girls being put through their paces by the meticulous Michael Nolan, and our Juveniles and Minors getting the benefit of the experience and skill of players like Adrian Fenlon, Declan Ruth and others.

It's lovely to see so many players willing to get involved with our under-age this year. It is definitely the way to go as our younsters are getting a huge kick out of being trained and coached by their heroes. Thank you to all who are training and coaching our teams this year - your efforts and time are very much appreciated.

There was a plethora of activity in the clubhouse as well as one of our up and coming players, Ciarán O'Connor, celebrated his 21st birthday on Friday night, club member Jim Byrne pledged his troth at his engagement party on Saturday night, and a wonderful night of entertainment was held on Sunday night for the Haiti Disaster Fund.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported the fundraiser and say a special word of thanks to Stephen Murphy on guitar, Tom Murphy on banjo and Leslie Dunne on piano accordian who very generously gave of their talents freely for Haiti and made it a most enjoyable and special evening. The three-man band will most certainly be back at Bellefield for another gig in the near future by popular demand.

A special guest appearance was make by Michael Sullivan who will be representing the club in the Celebrity Wannabe in April. Michael's melodious renditions of favourites like the 'Mistral Boy', 'My Way' and 'Grace' nearly brought the house down, and might I take this opportunity to publicly thank Michael for agreeing to represent the club in what promises to be a brilliant talent contest.

I would also like to thank Tom Morrissey of Hayes' Bar who is going to host a night on Saturday next, February 25, in aid of our Celebrity Wannabe campaign, and chalk this one down in the diary too - on Easter Sunday a very special night of entertainment will be held in Bellefield featuring both Michael Sullivan and the Athenaeum's representative, Matthew Hyland, along with Joe 90 and many other local singers as a fundraiser for both the Athenaeum and our Player Injury Fund. One most definitely to look out for!

I would like to express our sincere sympathies to the O'Shea family on the death of Jimmy. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers at this most difficult time.

On a lighter note, congratulations to Noel and Anita Jordan on the birth of their daughter, Ava.

The draw for this year's campionships will take place tonight (Wednesday) in the Riverside Park, and leagues are due to commence in March. All details will be posted on our website as soon as they are available.

M-TOWN-C'DOCKRELL

Just a reminder that membersip is now due and must be paid by the first week of March in order for players to be covered to play. The Leinster and All-County leagues will be starting soon and only paid-up members will be eligible to play. Mitch Jordan is collecting all membership and it's ¤80 for adult players.

The ladies' footballers have started back training on Thursday in Farmleigh at 7.30 p.m. sharp. All new members are welcome and previous experience is not essential. All interested to contact John Kinsella on 0877693519.

The draw for this year's championships will take place this evening (Wednesday) in the Riverside Park Hotel at 7.30 p.m.

BUFFERS ALLEY

The Club Development Draw will commence shortly, with the January, February and Special Draw for paid-up members taking placing on Friday, March 12, in the clubhouse. Thereafter all draws will take place on the last Tuesday of every month. All promoters are asked to return their cards on Tuesday, March 2, at 9 p.m. in the complex so that the administrative work can be prepared in advance to ensure the smooth running of this annual draw.

Tickets are still available from all club members at a cost of ¤10 per month or ¤120 for the year. Each month one lucky prizewinner will receive ¤400, with ¤100 for second prize and three prizes of ¤50. Please support your club in their ongoing development.

A large crowd turned out in the clubhouse on Saturday night last for the 2009 medal presentation. Seamus Kenny, club Chairman, welcomed everyone to the clubhouse and in particular the two guests, Fr. Martin Casey and Tom Dempsey. He particularly thanked everyone who was involved with all the teams in the past year - Senior, Seán Whelan, Pat Kenny, Kevin Gahan and John Doyle; Junior, Paul Gahan, Dan Connolly and John Gahan. He wished everyone the best of luck for 2010.

First up were the 2009 Minor teams who received runner-up medals. Tom Dempsey presented the boys with their medals and in his speech encouraged them to continue playing the game, especially as most of this group will now be involved with the adult teams. He congratulated all the panel, their management team of Matty Foley, Theo Butler, Colm Doran and Seán Óg Whelan. Special mention to their parents and supporters who travelled far and near to all the games.

Both the first and second adult hurling teams received their league medals, and Fr. Martin Casey was on hand to do the honours to this group of men. In his address he recalled many happy days and evenings spent in the field in Monamolin and had some very encouraging words for everyone present.

He was delighted to be back amongst the people he had spent many years with in the Monamolin/Kilmuckridge area. To conclude the evening, Seamus Kavanagh organised a fun club quiz and, following a tight finish, Therése Doran and Ken Harney emerged as winners.

Membership for the adult G.A.A. club is now due. The cost is the same as 2009 with ¤100 for players and ¤30 for non-playing members.

KILANERIN

The ladies' A.G.M. was held on Friday week last in the clubrooms. We had a good attendance. Chairperson, Pat Cullen, welcomed everyone to the meeting. A vote of sympathy and a minute's silence was held for those who had lost loved ones during the year.

The club thanked P.J. Gethings, Gordon Hughes and everyone else who helped and gave some of their time with the Intermediate team. In the championship, the girls reached the final.

This year it was decided to also enter a Junior team. Management for these teams were elected at this meeting and they are: P.J. Gethings, Michael Byrne and Pat Cullen.

With these three men with a lot of experience behind them and the promise of more commitment and dedication from the girls, the team hopes to bring home some silverware this year. Training for these teams begins on Wednesday, February 24, at 7.30 p.m. sharp.

The club thanked all those involved last year in Under-12, Stewart Davis; Under-14, Pat O'Connor; Under-16, Nora O'Connell, and Under-18, Pat Cullen, and everyone else who helped them in any way.

The Under-12s and Under-14s did quite well considering the small panel of players. The Undr-16 team had a great championship final played in Wexford Park. A great victory, and congratulations was extended to Nora and the team.

Although the Under-18s did not get to any finals due to the fact the team was made up of mostly Under-16s, it proved to be good practice for the county final.

The club would like to express their gratitude to all under-age and Senior players and parents who took part in a very successful bag-packing fundraiser. It was lovely to see so many people helping out.

Thanks to Fr. O'Brien and Margaret Jones for their help by putting fixtures, reports and results in the newsletter and local papers for all these years.

Parents Adrian Foote and Pat Fleming have very kindly offered to help enter Kilanerin ladies' football into the Kilanerin website and receive material for same. This should be up and running in March.

Officers elected: Chairperson, Pat Cullen; Secretary, Bernadette Cullen; Treasurer, Róisín Donohoe; Child Officer, Betty Bardon.

Medal presentation for the Intermediate runners-up and Under-16 county championship winners will be held in Nolan's of Annagh on March 5 at 8.30 p.m. New players are urgently needed in under-age. For information on registration, please contact Bernadette Cullen on 0402-37175.
