Racing 795 began the cross-country (XC) mountain bike racing season on Sunday last at round two of the Cycling Ireland XC developmental race series, held in Ballyhoura, Co. Cork.
Five club members took part, all from Bunclody. Paddy Furlong was the star performer, riding a strong race on a demanding Junior course and coming home second in the Under-12 race.
In the Seniors, Ross Moorhead had a very impressive XC debut, coming 15th of 46 riders in a full-on, fast-paced race. Perennial rivals David Furlong and David Conway fought a close tactical battle, finishing 23rd and 25th respectively. Jim Furlong completed the Racing 795 quintet in 38th.
The course was ideal for beginners, smooth and flowing. This of course meant it was extremely fast for the more experienced riders, resulting in numerous exciting sprint finishes right down through the field.
Racing 795 is holding its own XC race, round one of the Leinster XC League, in Kilbrannish near Bunclody on March 28. For full details and online registration, visit www.racing795.com
