TUSKAR ROCK: The recent A.G.M's of Tuskar Rock Golf Clubs took place at St. Helen's Bay complex, where the huge turnout of ladies and gents heard Managing Director Larry Byrne explain the new starting position for the Tuskar course.

WEXFORD: In 1744 the Gentlemen Golfers of Edinburgh produced the first written set of rules for playing golf. This society evolved into the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers and played the game over the five-hole Leith course. Wexford produced its own honourable golfer last week when Mal O'Keeffe (20) won Wednesday's single stableford competition, played over 14 holes, with a score of 34 points.

ROSSLARE LADIES: Spring-like conditions were enjoyed on Saturday week last for the fourball 14-hole stableford competition. The winners were Niamh Byrne (17/10) and Cathy Atkinson (18/11) with 33 points.

Lovely spring weather saw the the end of the Winter League in St. Helen's Bay on Saturday with perfect conditions for golf. With an exciting, nail-biting finish - so close that it was down to the last man in - champions were Furlong's Furies, beating Bossy Breda's by 96 points to 90. This competition is going from strength to strength each year.

With the weather being so fine at the start of last week, the greens staff were able to go ahead with the hollow-coring of the greens as planned, but the fact that the greens were still full of sand seemed to have little effect on the members and the standard of golf played again this week.

In glorious sunny conditions, 57 intrepid Seniors went out in 12 x 4 and 3 x 3 man teams on Thursday last in search of the elusive prizes. Even though conditions were absolutely perfect, the newly-cored greens found many players out, either leaving a putt short or else racing it past the hole.

Juvenile Captain Julie Rossiter got the drive-in proceedings under way when she bisected the fairway on the first hole with a full-blooded drive. This shot was executed with no trace of nerves in front of a large and appreciative audience and was a credit to the young player.

Once again the sunny south-east lived up to its name and the sun shone splendidly on Sunday for the scramble competition. Teams of three took to the course from morning until early afternoon, and some sparkling golf was played in glorious conditions.

The 64 Golf Society's outing to Arklow Golf Club was held on Saturday last, with 38 members playing on a day that was ideal for golf and on a course that has seen many improvements over the last couple of years.
