Monageer overcome drought

Wednesday August 25 2010

MONAGEER-BOOLAVOGUE are just one hour away from a second successive Junior football championship final appearance despite failing to score in the secondhalf of their clash with RathgarogueCushinstown in St. Patrick's Park on Saturday last.

Indeed, they hit most of their tally early on, with John Breen and Conal Nolan picking off points before Marty Kelly earned a penalty in the ninth minute which was netted by Stephen Murphy.

Free-taker Nicky Sinnott got Rathgarogue-Cushinstown off the mark, but it was 1-5 to 0-3 in favour of MonageerBoolavogue at half-time after further points from John Breen, John O'Loughlin and Stephen Murphy.

Amazingly, the men in red didn't score again, but they managed to confine their rivals to just four points between the 39th and 50th minutes.

Rathgarogue-Cushinstown did have a late chance to force extra-time, but it wasn't taken so a relieved Monageer-Boolavogue march on into the last four where they will take on Clonard.
