Fifteen new faces in all
THE PROMISE to experiment was certainly kept in Saturday's game, writes Alan Aherne.
Ten of the starting team, plus all five substitutes used, were representing Wexford at Senior level for the first time.
Two of the remaining five - full-back Brendan Travers and centre-back John Leacy - had made just one previous appearance each, in the 2009 Walsh Cup versus U.C.D. and last year's National League against Dublin respectively.
It meant that the three most 'experienced' players in action were Jim Berry, Eanna Martin and James Tonks who were making their 22nd, 16th and 10th appearances respectively.
No doubt the experimenting will continue when Wexford play host to Offaly - surprise losers to Westmeath - in the Walsh Shield semi-final in Bellefield next weekend.
