Fair play initiative
Wednesday February 03 2010
THE MOST disciplined counties in the forthcoming National Leagues are to be rewarded as part of a new 'Fair Play Index' which has been approved by the G.A.A's Management committee.
Points will be awarded for yellow and red cards and suspensions, and the county with the lowest average points per game (including finals) will be the winner in each code.
A ¤10,000 prize for their team development fund will go to each winning county. In the event of a tie, the county with the fewest sendings off or suspensions will be the winner. If there is still a tie, the prize will be shared.
The points system works like this: yellow card, one point; Category 2 sending off/suspension, two points; Category 1A suspension, two points; Category 3 sending off/suspension, three points; Category 2A suspension, three points; Category 4 sending off/suspension, six points; Category 3A suspension, six points; Category 5 sending off/suspension, ten points; Category 4A suspension, ten points.
Points will be calculated on the basis of submitted referees' reports.
