VEC makes case for school control

Tuesday September 07 2010

CO. WEXFORD VEC has said that if it is given patronage of the new Gorey second level school, it will include an all Irish stream in the school, if there is sufficient interest.

The VEC outlined its proposals for the management of the new post primary school at a recent meeting with the Department of Education and Skills. The other interested party, Educate Together, was also in attendance at the meeting.

Eilis Leddy, Education Officer, Wexford VEC said that the VEC is proposing that the new school will be a Community College and that this model of education will be most inclusive of the traditional and newer communities in Gorey and its immediate hinterland. She said representatives from the primary schools in Gorey would be invited to join the board.

She added that, if there is sufficient demand, an 'all Irish' stream will be provided.
