Vanessa in running for fashion design award
Wednesday March 03 2010
A YOUNG Craanford student has been selected as one of twenty finalists in the Nokia Young Fashion Designer Awards 2010.
The finalists, who were revealed this week, were selected from design colleges across Ireland.
Vanessa Doyle is a student at Griffith College Dublin and her garment was inspired by the wires of technology from the past and present which help to connect people.
Vanessa used Nokia's information portal Ovi.com and its many services, as the inspiration for her design.
After beating numerous entries from final year students in design and fashion colleges across Ireland, Vanessa now brings her creative idea to life at the exhibition, which will take place on Wednesday, March 24.
Daughter of Michael and Margaret Doyle of Craanford, Vanessa (23) is a former Gorey Community School student, and is in her final year of a fashion design course in Griffith College. She said she was 'very surprised' at being selected as a finalist. 'It's so hard to get into. It was a shock,' she said.
She has already created her garment for the competition, and is currently busy preparing for the college end of year fashion show in May. She has also had her creations modeled in Tatler magazine and The Irish Times.
For the past ten years she has worked part-time in Funges of Gorey, and it was through Funges that she got work experience in Diesel Ireland.
All finalists will be judged by a panel of industry experts.
