Ten Model County gems

Wednesday August 25 2010

1: CAROL WEXFORD KIDSTIME The name may sound odd, but this facebook page is a must stop shop for parents. It gives Wexford parents local information on kids activities, camps, classes, events and services. Looking to keep boredom at bay when the little ones are at home? Check this page out. 2: I CAN SPEAK WEXFORD This fun page is only deadly desh lads. Set up as a fun page to explore Wexford-speak, it's a light hearted homage to the county's native tongue. Or as the admins say: 'This page is for all people who can speak quare gud Wexford'. 3: WEXFORD HAS A WHALE, DINGLE CAN KEEP THEIR DOLPHIN! Ever since the appearance of a whale earlier this year off Hook Head, Wexfordians have gone maritime mad. The page, which has 2,610 members, has all the links and photographs of the Wexford whale. 4: BLACK 47 Larry Kirwan may be living stateside for the last few decades but Wexicans can keep in touch with the Irish rock legend through the bands regularly-updated facebook page. 5: CRY BEFORE DAWN The Wexford foursome may not have played together for nearly two decades but there's a wave of 80s nostalgia rearing its head for the band who brought us 'Gone for Ever' and 'The Seed That's Been Sown'. With just under 1,000 facebook fans, demands for a reunion are made daily!

6: GOREY PAST AND PRESENT Similar to the Wexford in the good old days site this is a fun 'club' page. The page description says: This is a group for expats and locals alike. Share with us those funny vids and stories of you making a fool of yourself, sing a few tunes or crying because someone stole your 'get out of Gorey money.' 7: WEXFORD OPERA HOUSE Choc-a-block with info about the latest acts and shows to be staged in Wexford's cultural gem, the Wexford Opera House. Links to easy online bookings and regular promotional discounts are a feature. 8: I'M FROM IRELAND, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY I'M NOT FROM KILKENNY While this is not strictly a Wexford page, it has a large Wexford contingent in its 6,000-strong fan base. As disgruntled GAA fans, Wexfordians with a hurl to grind can let off some steam against the cats on this 'just for fun' page.

9: WEXFORD TIDY TOWNS Feeling community spirited? The Wexford Tidy Town's facebook page gives times and dates of community clean ups and has lots of pictures of volunteers getting their hands dirty for the good of the town. 10: WEXFORD PHOTOS While there are lots of photographers and photographic groups on the pages of facebook one of them is easy to remember. Wexford photos features the photographic work of talented Lee Robinson, who has captured breathtaking landscapes around Wexford. Well worth viewing.
