It looks as if the green light will be given for the revival of Scouting in Gorey.

The organisation, which ceased activities in the town around five years ago, held a meeting in the Ashdown Park Hotel last week. It was attended by County Commissioner for Scouting Ireland Oliver Kehoe, and Provincial Support Officer Justin Maher, as well as up to fifty interested members of the public.

Among those who attended were former members of the Gorey organisation, and parents of those who had been part of Scout troops in Dublin, and had since moved to the area.

'There was definite interest,' said Oliver Kehoe, who added that another meeting had been organised for this week the Ashdown Park Hotel. 'We need to get people in place in the various organisational positions, and put training in place. We then have to get a charter from Scouting Ireland Headquarters to go ahead'.

'All going well, we will hopefully be enrolling children within three to four weeks, and we should have meetings by the end of April,' he said. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are open to boys and girls aged between six and sixteen.
