Retailers left with a hefty bill as vandals strike Main Street

Wednesday July 28 2010

RETAILERS in Gorey are counting the cost after two Main Street shop windows were broken last Friday morning, causing over €5,000 worth of damage.

The window at Sally West was shattered at about 1 a.m. and will cost the store around €1,500 to replace.

'It's just unfortunate in a small country town for something like this to happen,' said Mia Leddy of Sally West.

Kevin Leacy of Leacy's Menswear faces an even heftier bill to have his large plate window replaced after it was smashed in a separate incident.

The damage to the window and the display inside is expected to amount to over €4,000.

Gardaí said arrests have been made in both cases, but no charges had yet been brought.
