Recycling centre now on course
GOREY'S NEW Civic Amenity Centre could be up and running before the summer.
Contracts were signed and exchanged last week between Wexford County Council and the developer Jim Osbourne last week for the extensive facility at Ramstown, which will be available for all household domestic recycling.
Welcoming the news this week, Senator Michael D'arcy said the project was long awaited. 'It took longer than I would have liked, but I'm satisfied we got the result we were looking for,' he said. 'It's now a matter for Wexford County Council to fit out the building.'
The centre was built privately by Jim Osbourne, founder of the Gorey Business Park at Ramstown. The Amenity Centre has now been purchased by the County Council for operation as a public recycling facility. The development is being funded by a €1 million grant from the Department of the Environment.
'I'm told that funding will be put in place to conclude whatever alterations are required,' said Michael. ' The centre will have a large capacity for all household recyclables.'
The centre will be accessed via the Ramstown Road, and Michael said he believes the facility could be open before the summer.
