GEORGE MacDonald is still semi-speechless at the huge turnout for the launch of his book of poetry 'Word Weaver' last Saturday night.

The Tara Suite in the Ashdown Park Hotel was packed to capacity for the launch, and George, who hails from Creagh, Gorey, almost developed 'writer's cramp' from signing all the books for the long line of supporters and well wishers.

Support came from family, friends, and acquaintances, and Dr Seán Nixon was only too happy to launch the book on the night. MC for the evening was Tony Woulfe, while George's friends Tarja Kontro and Ann McLoughlin, and his brother Malcolm, also spoke.

Enjoying the evening were George's wife Kathleen, and their daughter Carol McEvoy and her sons Darragh, Niall and Deirbhle. George's brother Malcolm, his wife Eithne, their son Ian and his wife Anna, were also present, as was his sister Patricia MacNamee from Cork. His other sister, Helen MacDonald, was also in attendance, as were members of Kathleen's family.

George was especially delighted to see friends from across the country, from the Aran Islands, Kenmare, and elsewhere. 'I'm amazed at how successful it was,' said George. 'I'm very touched by the turnout. I never dreamt it would take off like this.'

Anyone wishing to purchase the ¤10 book, can email macdk@eircom.net or phone 087 2435976. Proceeds go to the Hospice in Raheny.
