Public urged to back growing cuts campaign
EDUCATION PROTEST RALLY SATURDAY
THE PEOPLE of County Wexford are being urged to turn out in force and make their voices heard at Saturday's Education Cuts Rally in Dublin.
The Irish National Teacher's Organisation (INTO) estimate that in excess of 1,000 primary teachers will lose their jobs nationally from September 2009 and more than 30 of these jobs will be lost in Co. Wexford.
'This is happening at a time when the number of children in primary schools is expected to rise by 15,000 in 2009 and by a similar amount for the next ten years,' said Seán Ó Dubhlaing, Media Co-Ordinator with County Wexford INTO.
'Ultimately, younger primary teachers and children will be affected by the blunt cutbacks,' said Mr. Ó Dubhlaing.
'The INTO in Wexford are calling on school communities to let our TDs and Councillors know the extent of their dismay at these cutbacks, which affect all schoolgoing Wexford children.
'They are also inviting all concerned to attend the Dublin protest rally on Saturday (December 6) in Parnell Square from 12 noon.
