Picture perfect Jordan wins family trip to Turkey

Wednesday November 04 2009

A TEN-year-old's eye for detail, and a little help from Google, earned a Ballygarrett family a holiday in Turkey this week.

Jordan Redmond, the son of Michael and Margaret Redmond from Ballygarrett, came up trumps in a Sunday World colouring competition, which was run in conjunction with Derek Mooney's wildlife programme on Radio 1.

Jordan spent all day on the October Bank Holiday Sunday colouring his poster sized entry for the competition, after being encouraged to partake by his mum.

'We were at home having a lazy day and I said to Jordan, 'With this recession would you not try and win me a holiday and colour in that picture',' she said this week.

Jordan took down his boxes of crayons, markers and pencils and set about the task, and even used some of his mums oil paints to finish the masterpiece.

'When he went to colour in the owls in the picture I suggested to him that he Google them and see what colours they are. He did, and we were told afterwards that it was the detail on the birds that won it for him,' she said.

'Jordan was delighted. Although I think he got more of a thrill out of seeing his name and his picture in the paper than winning the holiday itself,' said Margaret.
