Musical fundraisers say thanks
Wednesday August 25 2010
JOYCE O'Keeffe and Gwen Faulkner, two hard working fundraisers, have announced that so far, they have raised over €1,500 for charity this summer.
Joyce sets up her organ outside Funge's on Main Street on Thursdays during the summer when the weather is good, and Gwen collects money from passers by. Joyce's husband Danny also helps out from time to time.
They already announced the amounts raised for Crumlin Children's Hospital and for North Wexford Hospice Homecare, and were now eager to let people know that the latest monies raised have also been handed over to two worthy causes.
They played during the Market House festival and raised €129.93 for VITA, an organisation which helps reduce poverty and renew the environment in Eritrea and Ethiopia. They played for the same organisation the following Thursday, and raised a further €253.49.
The following week, they played for the National Guide Dogs for the Blind, and raised €300.
They thanked everyone who supported their musical fundraisers, especially Funges for the use of their electricity.
They said they hoped to do one more fundraiser this summer, weather permitting, and they would donate any funds raised to the local branch of St. Vincent de Paul.
