THE ORGANISERS of the reformed Scouting organisation have been overwhelmed with the interest shown by local young people.

It was expected that 50 to 70 young people would sign up for the Scouts at its enrolment night recently. Instead, queues formed for twenty minutes outside the hall, and 213 registered for the beavers, cubs and scouts.

'It far exceeded our expectations,' said Oliver Kehoe, County Commissioner with Scouting Ireland.

'It is obvious that Gorey is crying out for youth needs,' he added. Two beaver colonies, two cub packs, and one large Scout group have been established. New Scout leaders are currently undergoing training.

A meeting for all parents will take place, today, Wednesday May 5 in the Ashdown Park Hotel at 7.30p.m.
