THINGS are looking very black for the Gorey School of Taekwon-Do at present. Eleven students recently passed their black-belts with flying colours.
The candidates were tested in all aspects of Taekwon-Do in Gorey Badminton Hall by three examiners – Henry O'Neill, Jimmy Dowling, and Vincent Hogan. The aspects covered were patterns, sparring, destruction, fundamental movements, release against locks and terminology.
The students testing for first degree black belt were: Juniors: Desmond Dowling, Garry McDonald, Andrew Hogan, Dylan Butler Perry, Ivan Bolger, Shannon Cox, and Nicola Conroy. Seniors: Claire Gregan, Kira Murphy and Shauna Hogan. Louis Naessens was testing for third degree. Parents and spectators were also in attendance to see the students taking to the floor. The students completed various tasks, including performing jumping kicks with both legs, and breaking timber while in the air, and regaining balance after they landed back on the floor.
Chief instructor Vincent Hogan praised all his students for their years of dedication.
