Great response to first fundraising event
THE PEOPLE of Kilmuckridge and surrounding area have opened their hearts to the local family who have set about raising funds in memory of their beautiful daughter who passed away earlier this year.
Over €1,300 was raised in just three hours last Friday at a coffee morning in Castle Delights in Kilmuckridge. Karen said that people queued in the rain to get into the packed tea room. She thanked everyone for their support and kind wishes.
Her husband Alan now plans to run, with some friends, in a half marathon in Dublin on September 18, and they are currently collecting sponsorship.
They are raising funds for St. John's Ward in Crumlin Children's Hospital, a paediatric oncology ward, which is in need of refurbishment. 'There is one toilet and one shower between sixty parents,' said Karen. 'It's disgraceful. They're relying on people like me to improve the unit.'
The Aimee Toner Memorial Fund has been set up, and money will also be given to neuroblastoma research.
