FOX GLACIER on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island is home to some of the most stunning scenery in New Zealand.

The 13 km long glacier located in Westland National Park is named after a former prime minister of New Zealand Sir. William Fox. It has the distinction of being one of the few glaciers to end in lush rainforest only 300 metres above sea level.

With a population of around 300 people, the nearby Fox Glacier township is popular with tourists who stop off in the area for guided glacier tours, hikes, and skydiving among other pursuits.

The village offers breathtaking views of New Zealand's highest peaks including Mount Cook.

The Glacier is one of the most accessible glaciers in the world, and is visited by around 1,000 people daily in the high tourist season. Helicopter rides offer opportunities to flyover the glacier, while visits to nearby Lake Matheson are also popular.

Skydiving is one of the most popular attractions in the area, and many visitors to the area take home a video of their experience afterwards.

The town has welcomed visitors from all over the world for many years.
