A MAN who comes close to perpetual motion, Tommy McElwaine just keeps on running and keeps on fundraising.

The Ferns man's latest charitable endeavour saw him raise the grand total of €4,500 for the Irish Hospice Foundation through his participation in the Strawberry Half Marathon in Enniscorthy.

Tommy raised the funds for the Hospice Foundation with the very useful assistance of Mick Jordan, Liz Carter and Paddy Murray and the proceeds were handed over in Doyle's Pub in Ferns last Friday night.

Tommy said he wished to thank all those who sponsored him, particularly his colleagues at Irish Country Meats, who were most generous.

A member of the local Sliabh Bui Rovers athletics club, Tommy has been fundraising for many years now and has raised hundreds of thousands of Euro for worthy causes though his sponsored races.

The Irish Hospice Foundation is the support and development body for hospice care in Ireland and they operate on the basis that everyone is entitled to a dignified, comfortable death.

' We believe that no one should have to face death or bereavement without appropriate care and support. It is thanks to support from people like Tommy McElwaine and Mick Jordan that we can reach the point where everyone in Ireland who requires it can access appropriate hospice care, regardless of geography, age or diagnosis,' said a spokesperson for the foundation.
