Educate Together group gathers 1,400 signatures in bid for control of school

EDUCATE Together has indicated its interest in taking on the patronage of the proposed new secondary school in Gorey.
Speaking after the announcement of the go-ahead for the new second level school, Tara Ann Bolger of the Gorey Educate Together group said that they had already expressed their interest in the school to the Minister for Education, and that 1,400 signatures had been collected locally in support of the proposal.
She pointed out that the Educate Together ethos is multidenominational, not non-denominational, and that is run under the auspices of the Department of Education and uses the national curriculum. 'We are child centred, and are run by a Board of Management the same as any other primary school, 'she said.
The Educate Together is already planning for phase two of its building project at Creagh, as the newly opened Phase 1 is already full.
'We're delighted the secondary school is going to be fast tracked,' she said. 'We had already contacted the Minister to express our interest'.
Currently, there are no Educate Together secondary schools in the country, and Educate Together is actively campaigning to be given patronage of secondary schools, so it can get a number of projects off the ground.
