Castle in line for national award
COUNTY COUNCIL BUILDING ALSO PICKED
THE RECENTLY refurbished Enniscorthy Castle is on the shortlist for a ' best tourist attraction' award. The centuries old building is in contention for a prize from the Local Authorities Members Association which represents the elected members of councils all around Ireland.
'It's fabulous to be nationally recognised, alongside well known attractions such as Wicklow Gaol. Fingers crossed we'll be celebrating after the event,' was the reaction of castle manager Jacqui Hynes. She is due to attend LAMA'S black tie awards ceremony in Dublin's Crowne Plaza on February 11 where RTE'S Miriam O'callaghan will be compere.
The castle is one of seven contenders for the honour, along with rivals from South Dublin, Cork, Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Wicklow. The new Wexford County Council headquarters is in the running in the ' best eco-friendly building', 'most innovative authority' and ' best public building' categories. Kilmore Quay is in with a chance in the competition for the ' best public
playground' accolade.
