MAIREAD Garvey of the Hope Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorthy was delighted to make the trip to Castletown recently, as the local soccer club there had a very handsome cheque to present to her to help fund the centre's services.

A cheque for ¤ 1,160 was presented to the centre by Anchor United, which organised a road race on St. Stephen's Day.

A spokesperson for the club said they were delighted with the amount raised, especially considering the event took place in freezing conditions and on icy roads.

They thanked all who took part and helped in any way with the event, especially Tom Kavanagh, who marked the route; Halpin Furniture in Arklow which sponsored the trophies; and Londis Tara Hill and the Golden Anchor which donated raffle prizes.
