Beavers and cubs make a welcome return
Thursday November 25 2004
The woggles and red and khaki coloured neckerchiefs were firmly in place, and the new look red sweatshirts were out in force as Gorey welcomed the return of beavers, cubs and scouts to the town after a five year absence.
The first investiture of the 3rd Wexford Gorey Scout Group took place on Sunday last at Gorey Community School. Chief Scout Martin Burbridge of Scouting Ireland was in town to welcome the 130 children and their parents to the scouting family, as each and every one of them recited the Scouting Promise, and received their neckerchiefs and certificates.
Ranging in age from six to fifteen, the beavers, cubs and scouts have been active for the past six months in preparation for their investiture.
Activities
Their 23 leaders organise five meetings a week, at which the activities range from crafts to hillwalking, as well as lots of games of course.
Such is the popularity of the revived movement, that they already have a large waiting list, and the organisers are appealing for more leaders to join in the fun.
The Scout Hall in Esmonde Street is their base once more, and exciting year ahead is planned already.
