Lifeguards graduate at Water Safety Week

AROUND TWENTY new lifeguards graduated at Courtown last week, following the largest ever Courtown Water Safety Week.
Around 140 students took to the water at Courtown, and at Prospect Park in Ballymoney, for the week's intensive training at all levels. The students were aged from ten upwards.
Twenty-seven trainee and full instructors put them through their paces for the course which was offered at various levels. They swam in Courtown harbour, off Courtown beach and in Prospect swimming pool.
The inclement weather presented a number of obstacles for the course.
'We would not have been able to continue with the week only for Courtown RNLI and Prospect Holiday and Leisure Park in Ballymoney,' said a spokesperson for Courtown Water Safety. 'Many thanks to Maureen, Shane, and Imelda in the Taravie for hosting the instructor meetings.'
The water safety week has been going for over 40 years. Instructors come from all over to teach, and all are volunteers, with many taking a week off work to help with the course.
The next water safety course in Courtown takes place in January in Forest Park Leisure Centre. Watch out for local advertisements in December.
