OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
Opportunity Knocks is starting its 23rd year on Friday 3rd February; preliminary rounds continue on Friday 10th February and Friday 17th February with the final to take place on Friday 24th February.
Categories for the coming year include irish dancing, modern dance, music, singing, recitation, novelty acts and mime. All categories are solo or group. Junior level is 14 and under on February 3rd except for solo and group dancing which will be 11 and under. Places will be limited so it is important to book early. Adoration after mass on Tuesday morning to 9 p.m. Blessing of throats will be given after mass on Friday morning and again on Friday night at 7.15 p.m. For those who cannot attend on friday the blessing will be given after the masses at the weekend.
CHURCH CLEANING
Thanks to Dilly O'sullivan, Ann Hughes Marcella Jones and Margaret Somers who cleaned the Church for January. Cleaning during February will be done by Carmel Hughes, Caroline Higgins and Helen Noctor.
For many years now Church cleaning has been done by teams of volunteers for on month per year on a rota basis. Our thanks to those who have been doing it for many years. As time goes on some people peoples circumstances change so that they are no longer able to continue. We need some new people to take their place. If you are willing to join a team especially for February please contact Fr. O'brien.
COFFEE MORNING
Kilanrin parents association are holding a coffee morning in Noel Murphy's Kilanerin from 9 a.m. on Thursday 2nd February in aid of the carers association in association with Ian Lacey's bicycle ride.
GAA NOTES
The underage AGM was held on Friday 20th January. There were reports on the large numbers of boys and girls now playing for the club and on the success and progress all ages are making. Under 12+14 have just started back training indoor but the younger ages will have to wait until end of march. Chairman Micheal Hughes and Secretary Myles Carroll were returned to office. Meanwhile, the minor footballers won their Jim Byrne cup quarter final beating Ballyhogue 5-7 to 2-12.
WHIST
First lady at last weeks whist was won by Eilish Murphy; second lady was Mary Mccarthy; third lady was shared by Rosari Gillick and Eileen Furlong half time lady was Margaret Jones; first gent was Jack Stanley; second gent was Peg Mcdonald; third gent was Peg Byrne and half time gent was John Jones. Raffle winners on the night were Marie Cushe Noel Carter and Eilish Murphy. Whist continues every Wednesday night at 8.30 p.m.
