BETTY O'Connor's 60th birthday celebrations were nearly scuppered last week when she discovered her original venue had been double booked for the night.

However, the Loch gCarman Arms in Gorey came to the rescue, and was able to facilitate the size of the party she had planned, and was able to provide sandwiches and other finger food for the crowd.

Betty hails from Borleigh, Kilanerin, and had invited a large crowd of friends, as well as cousins from Bray and Dublin.

She said she didn't know what she would do when she was left without a venue. 'I was in some state,' she said. 'As a last straw I rang the Loch gCarman and, fair play to them, they really did a brilliant job.'

'The place was packed,' said Betty, thanking everyone for their generous gifts and good wishes. 'It really was appreciated,' she said. 'It was overwhelming – a brilliant night.' She also thanked Mary Darcy for making a beautiful cake in the shape of her house. 'It was an absolutely brilliant job.'

The biggest thank you went to the Loch gCarman Arms. 'They saved the day for me. I didn't know what I was going to do!'
