DRAMA FESTIVAL

Mr. Liam Buttle, Chairman addressed the attendance on Saturday March 6 in the K.M.H. for the closing of the Drama Festival and extending many words of individual thanks.

Also on the stage were Mr Thomas Buttle (Festival President), Director Maria Johnston, Secretary Josie Moran, Billy McCreary, and Treasurer.

He congratulated all the participating groups on the very high standard of acting during the nine productions. Sincere thanks were also extended to all the sponsors without whom it would be impossible to run the festival.

The adjudicator Ann Maloney O'Driscoll congratulated all concerned with the organizing and running of such a successful festival. Liam also gave a special mention to the teachers of Kilmluckridge and Monamolin primary schools and all who participated in the art competition.

Following the presentation of the awards Fr. Larkin Vice President of the Drama Festival also addressed the attendance and officially declared the 52nd festival closed.

Results of Open Section: Best play - Ballyduff Drama Group, 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinback; Runner up Kilmeen Drama Group, ' King of the Castle' by Eugene McCabe; 3rd Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group, 'Death of a Salesman' by Arthur Miller.

Best Producer - Tom Coffey, Kilmeen Drama Group. Best Actor - Courtney Canning, 'Of Mice and Men' (Ballyduff Drama Group). Best Actress - Mary Doyle, 'Eclipsed' (Ballycogley Players). Best supporting actor - Christy O'Sullivan, ' King of the Castle' ( Kilmeen Drama Group).

Confined Section: Best play - Ferns Dramatic Society, 'Translations' by Brian Friel; Runner up Kilmuckridge Drama Group, ' Canaries' by Bernard Farrell; 3rd Kilrush Drama Group, 'On Rafftery's Hill' by Marian Carr. Best actor - Michael Dunbar, 'On Rafftery's Hill' (Kilrush Drama Group). Best actress - Maria Butler, 'Canaries' (Kilmuckridge Drama Group).

Best supporting actor Kevin Bolger, 'Translations' (Ferns Dramatic Society). Best supporting actress - Anne Sheridan, 'On Rafftery's Hill' (Kilrush Drama Group). Best individual comedy role - Sean Gahan, 'Canaries' (Kilmuckridge Drama Group).

Overall Awards: Best lightning - Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group, 'Death of a Salesman'. Most Promising performance - Alan O'Neill, Tinahely Drama Group with 'White Woman Street' by Sebastian Barry. Best moment of theatre - Kilrush Drama Group with 'On Rafferty's Hill'. Best overall presentation - Ferns Drama Society with 'Translations'. Best moment of comedy - Richard Devereux of Kilmuckridge Drama Group with 'Canaries'. Adjudicators award - Ballyduff Drama Group with 'Of Mice And Men'.
