COMMUNITY GAMES

Bree/ Davidstown Community Games had another great weekend at the third and final weekend of the 2010 National Finals in Athlone. The local athletes brought home their largest tally of individual medals in its history of participation in the Community Games National Finals.

Ryan Murray won the gold medal in the Boys U12 100m while Annie Stafford won gold in the Girls U14 Long Jump. John Kehoe won silver in the Boys U10 200m while Katie Whelan was third in the U8 60m and Sophie McCabe was third in the U12 600m.

In the Relays the U12 Boys squad of Ryan Murray, Dean Doyle, Enda Minogue, Barry Nolan, Anthony Butler and Brandon Sinnott proved too strong for all opposition by winning gold while the U16 Girls squad of Amy Flanagan, Catriona Carroll, Kate Murphy, Rachel Condon, Dervla McCabe and Hannah Sullivan won silver medals.

Adam Horan won a Bronze as part of the County U16 Marathon team. Niamh Rochford in U14 Hurdles and Amy Flanagan in U16 100m both got to their finals as did the U12 girls relay of Sophie McCabe, Aoife Rochford, Kasey Doyle, Chloe Whelan, Louise Butler and Annalise Crean.

The U10 Mixed Relay of Ava Dempsey, Katie Mai McCabe, Roisin Treacy, John Kehoe, Daire Rochford and Matthew Brown got to their semi final while other local athletes in Athlone for the National Finals were Dervla McCabe in the U16 Marathon, Sophie Codd in U8 80m, Matthew Brown in U10 Hurdles and Aoife Rochford in U12 100m. Coaches were Una Doyle and Mary Murphy.

Managers for the weekend were Una Doyle, Margaret Cloke Rochford, Jane Codd, Helena and Nicky Dempsey. Well done to all involved. YOUTH CLUB
