THE REMARKABLE voluntary spirit around Gorey was celebrated last week, as Gorey Town Council made its annual presentation of grants to local groups and organisations.

Groups operating in the town were recently invited to apply for a share of the €8,500 grant, and some 35 did so. They were each presented with cheques for €242 last week by mayor Angie Dooley, who said that the sum, while small, is in recognition of their work in the local community.

'Well done and thank you to all your volunteers, committees and supporters,' she said. 'If the town council can help you in any way at all in the future, please don't hesitate to ask.'
