SOCCER NEWS
On Saturday the U-12s travelled to the showgrounds in Gorey to take on Gorey Rangers and got off to the perfect start when Jamie Doyle slotted home from the edge of the box. Eoin Murphy doubled the lead with a brilliant shot from outside the area. At half-time they still lead by 2-0 and Gorey pulled back a goal soon after the resumption. Adam Meehan took advantage of a mistake by the Gorey keeper to score our third and restore the two goal lead. Despite Gorey netting again near the end, our lads held on to the lead for three valuable points.
The U-9s travelled to Kilmuckridge to take on St. Joseph's and the 'A' team put on a brave display but lost by 2-4. The team's top scorer, Cormac Walsh got the first score of the game from a free kick and Dara Harris rounded three defenders for our second goal. In the next game, the second team lost by 2-3 but Patrick Redmond's goal, the first of the game has to be the goal of the season so far. He collected a great pass 15 metres out and volleyed it to the top corner. Byron Keane cut through the defense for our second goal. Man of the match was Jim Gahan and Fionn Walsh was the man of the match in the 'A' team's game.
On Sunday, the men's 'A' team travelled to Shelburne for a Wexford Cup tie and after a tough first half came away with a 30 win. Michael Ivory converted two penalties and Mark Brady scored from play to book them a place in the next round.
The 'B' team hosted Ajax and a superb header from Cormac Finn, his second of the game, gave them victory and three valuable points on a 3-2 scoreline. John Reck playing in his first full game for the side, scored the first goal of the game and Ajax pulled one back to leave the sides level at the interval. Soon after the resumption, Ajax pulled ahead but Cormac Finn's first headed score brought it back to level pegging with five minutes remaining. Then with the last play of the game, he cooly netted again to break Ajax hearts.
