Big crowd at Credit Union's big night out
AROUND 140 guests went along for an evening of socialising and entertainment at the Annual Gorey Credit Union Dinner Dance last Saturday night.
HR Finance Manager and Master of Ceremonies, Barry Monaghan said the event was went very well and thanked everyone who came along.
In his address, Jim Kavanagh, President of Gorey Credit Union, said that 'the challenges facing the Credit Union are more daunting than ever' as 'current legislative and prudential requirements add continually to our workload and the Credit Union is not, unfortunately, immune to the so called credit crunch.'
'However', he said, 'we as a board are continually striving, with the aid of our management team and staff, to ensure that we offer our membership excellent value for money product ranges and services, while all the while adhering to the governance placed on us by the regulatory bodies'.
He went on to say that they are confident that they can continue to help their membership through the current hardships.
Cllr Robbie Ireton, Vice Chairperson of Gorey Town Council; Nick Cashin, Liason Officer to Chapter Nine of the Credit Union; Luke Byrne, Vice President of Chapter Nine; and Pat Derwin, Executive Manager of Gorey Credit Union all also had a few words to say.
A special tribute was paid to a recently retired staff member Eileen Hendley who had worked with the Credit Union for 31 years. She was presented with a gift by Enda O'Connor on behalf of the Board of Directors.
Alvin Kenny, Cathal Byrne and William Gilligan provided top class entertainment for the evening.
