JUST AS the utterly bleak month of January passed without any major incident February opened with the grim arrival of my television licence renewal notice. Yes, I knew it was probably on the way somewhere around this time of year but I'm always filled with a sense of disgust when it lands. Why, I hear you ask?-even though I suspect of you readers feel exactly the same way-because I feel it is one of the most unjustified bills in life.

SOMETIMES ALL you need to drag yourself out of the doldrums is a mad conversation with someone who's a bit cracked. There's nothing like talking to someone a bit madder than yourself to cheer you up no end. I've been feeling a bit 'January-ish', bit sorry for myself, bit fed up. Then the other day, out of the blue, I was privy to the most bizarre conversation, that still had me laughing days later.

THE Three-cornered Garlic doesn't normally flower until April but this year a few hardy individuals are in bloom already together with daffodils, snowdrops, crocuses and other spring bulbs. Looking like a white Bluebell, the Three-cornered Garlic has suffered a bit of an identity crisis. For a long time it was known as the Three-cornered Leek; now its preferred name is the Three-cornered Garlic. Technically it is an onion.

If you're a fan, you'll already know that you need to surrender yourself to the melodrama if you want to enjoy the modern Final Fantasy series. If you can't stand pining, aching, longing monologues, this isn't the series for you anymore. Lean into it and you're far more likely to get something out of the game.

IT CAME as a surprise to me that Enda Kenny's comments about greed and excessive borrowing were met with such anger in recent days but as they say ' the truth hurts'. As a nation we did borrow beyond our means, we became greedy like never before and we did become wealthy on credit. Now that the bubble has burst however it is clear that the people who were facilitated by 'generous' financial institutions are the victims instead of those who should really be accountable.
