PEOPLE living around Buffer's Alley and further afield got their first chance last week to see for themselves the huge new Community Arena that has been built on the grounds of Buffer's Alley GAA Club. A Shed Fest held last Saturday night saw over 900 people go along for a hooley at the new building. The Community Arena Fundraising committee are anxious that the building will be very much a community facility for use by a wide variety of groups and organisations in the area, and that it will be put to many different uses.
They were delighted to see so many people from the local area, and further afield, turn out for the fundraiser, which will help towards the completion of the project.
The building is 24 feet tall; 100 ft wide, and 200 ft long, so it can be put to a good many uses, the first of which was a barbeque and a dance last Saturday.
Music was provided by Donna Marie Sludds and her band; Run for Cover; and DJ Chris Parle. A pig on a spit and a barbeque ensured there was plenty of food to go around, and by all reports, a great night was had by one and all.
A spokesperson for the organising committee said that a huge amount of voluntary time had been put into work on the arena, and they thanked everyone in the local community for their work and support.
Thanks also went to the supporters who travelled from near and far to enjoy the night.
