Excitement levels reach fever pitch for Jedward
JEDWARD MANIA well and truly took over New Ross on Saturday as thousands of excited children from all over the country and even further afield giddily descended on the town.
Children travelled from most counties in the country and even from as far away as England to see the twins, who shot to fame last year following their unforgettable performances on the X-Factor.
Queues began to form at the entrance to the town park from 3 p.m. in advance of the Grimes twins' performance at 8.30 p.m.
Over on South Street, a select number of fans who won coveted passes to meet and greet Jedward gathered in St. Michael's Theatre from 3 p.m. onwards in great anticipation of finally seeing their pop idols.
The venue for the meet and greet was kept top secret in the days running up to the festival, for fear hundreds of fans would flood the theatre in hope of meeting the hair-raising duo.
Eventually at 4.40 p.m. John and Edward arrived through the back door of the theatre to ear deafening screams from their adoring fans.
The main auditorium was filled to capacity with over 200 fans who all queued up to have their photograph taken with Jedward.
When the gates eventually opened in the town park later that evening children raced to the stage to get a prime position in the front few rows.
Following an amazing performance by The Coronas, the excitement amongst children was at an all time high and their lengthy wait however paid off as John somersaulted onto the stage followed by Edward - who bravely hobbled on crutches after sustaining a leg injury a few weeks ago.
Setting the tone for their performance, the boys jumped around the stage to their own rendition of 'I've Got a Feeling' by the Black Eyes Peas.
Ditching his crutches, Edward hopped around on one leg for Robbie William's 'Rock DJ', a comical performance of Britney Spears' 'Oops I Did it Again', Blink 182's 'All the Small Things' and the ever-popular 'I Want Candy'; while John even jumped from the stage with excitement during the hour-long performance.
The night was only to get better for their 15,000 fans as they united on stage for the first time ever with Vanilla Ice to perform the hit 'Under Pressure - Ice Ice Baby', with a few lucky children called up on stage to dance with the American rapper and Jedward.
Consumed with the performance, many children never even realised it was raining until the concert was finally over.
