Courtown prepares to welcome the crowds to annual Maritime Festival

IT'S A BIG weekend in Courtown this weekend as the Courtown Maritime Festival takes place. There are lots of fun free activities organised for Saturday, July 10, and the traditional Sea Sunday celebrations take place on July 11.
A massive sandcastle competition will take place on the main beach on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry forms and conditions can be collected from Flanagan's Wharf.
A Crazy Crazy Golf Competition will be held at Brown's Golf Course between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. You can register beforehand.
The Irish Seal Sanctuary will have an information kiosk on the bandstand from noon to 4 p.m. There will also be facepainting at the bandstand at the same time. Gorey Pipe Band will play on the bandstand from 3.30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A Courtown Sailing Club sailing race can be viewed in Courtown bay from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A fishing competition will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. You can register at Courtown Angling Centre at 3 p.m. or call Joe on (087) 6613145.
On Saturday, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. there will be a Mega Children's Open Air Disco at the Seafront Stage with Sounds Electric. Special cartoon guests will pay a visit and there will be prizes galore. Vehicular access to the pier will be restricted during the disco. There will be music in the local pubs, hotels etc. from 8 p.m. onwards.
The Sea Sunday celebrations take place on Sunday, July 11. Courtown Rowing club will be running its first ever regatta/race on at 11 a.m. There will be two races: mens and ladies, both in East Coast Skiffs. Each race will involve a five mile trip along the coast, racing north from the Harbour towards Kiltennel/Tara Cove. Rowing clubs from all around the South East will be taking part. This will be followd by the Blessing of the Boats at 2.30 p.m. and the RNLI charity raft race at 4 p.m.
